In 1737 the "Dometto", the baptistery of Rovigo's Duomo, was demolished. Legend says the hammer stopped before the Madonna painted over the door.

Born in Rovigo in 1810, Giovanni Miani went further up the Nile towards its sources than anyone before. His remains rest at the Accademia dei Concordi.
